Lithuania: The Swiss manufacturer and the Lithuanian passenger operator LTG Link have presented the three-car trainset at the railway station in Kaunas. When the necessary tests are completed, the catenary-battery train will enter service on the lines Vilnius–Varėna and Kaunas–Šiauliai. The launch is scheduled for the second half of 2026.
The lithium-ion battery with a range of 70 km is located in a booster section which can only be passed through by passengers (there are no seats). The BEMU has a maximum speed of 160Â km/h under catenary and 120 km/h in battery mode and provides 128 seats in first- and second-class accommodation.
The rolling stock is produced under a 2023 contract worth €226.5 mln for six three-car BEMUs and nine five-car EMUs based on the FLIRT platform. The deal also includes technical maintenance of the whole fleet until 2037 and an option for the delivery of 13 electric trains and 28 hybrid trains in two modifications with ranges of 100 km and 70 km. The vehicles are manufactured at Stadler’s plant in Siedlce, Poland. The first EMU was unveiled in Lithuania in October 2025.
