Citizens of Serbia will be able to receive postal letters, bills, and official documents directly in an electronic mailbox on the e-government portal starting from April, announced today the director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, and the director of the Office for IT and e-Government, Mihailo Jovanović.

Anđelković emphasized that citizens will be able to receive certified bills and letters that are effectively received as soon as they arrive in the mailbox.

Classic mail will not disappear – mailmen are still working, but those who want an electronic way of communication will receive everything in their e-mailbox, said Anđelković, adding that the “My e-mailbox” application is now integrated with the Post of Serbia and partners, such as banks and telecommunication companies.

Jovanović pointed out that the electronic mailbox is the result of a complex technological and legal process.

“The legal basis and software solutions now allow the Post of Serbia to deliver documents directly to the e-mailbox, which speeds up delivery and increases security. We already have serious interested clients, including the PIO Fund, banks, and telecommunication companies,” said Jovanović.

The project allows citizens to take control over their documents themselves, whether electronically or physically, Anđelković and Jovanović pointed out.

They emphasized that the project is the result of more than a year and a half of work by the Post of Serbia, the Office for IT and e-Government, and the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, along with amendments to the Law on Postal Services that enable electronic delivery.
