Farmer Željko Tadić is at the blockade in Smederevska Palanka today, and this morning before it, he was called in for an interview at the police station. He told N1 that the police officers were correct during the conversation, but he believes that behind everything lies an attempt by the regime, namely the ruling party, to intimidate farmers and sabotage the blockades.
He pointed out to N1 that the number of people at the blockade is significantly higher, and that one of the reasons is that farmers ended up at the police station this morning.
„I believe that more than half of the people here are here because they are revolted by what happened this morning, specifically to me and another 12 to 13 farmers, meaning those informative talks at the police. I am glad that defiance is appearing in these people, that resistance is appearing. I do not want to politicize this, but I believe this is the work of the regime personally, specifically the ruling party. I believe they exerted that pressure on us – they tried to sabotage, they tried in some way to intimidate us,“ said Tadić.
During the interview at the police, he adds, the police officers themselves were extremely correct and kind, without any blackmail.
„They wanted to find out some information from me regarding today’s gathering, regarding some previous gatherings, as well as what the plan and program is, what is planned for further on. As far as today’s gathering is concerned, it was legally reported by name and surname by one of our fellow citizens, so today itself is completely legal,“ Tadić points out.
He adds that the decision on further gatherings will be made before the end of today’s meeting at 4 p.m.
As a reminder, the farmer associations that are protesting announced that today they are starting a total, multi-hour blockade of about 80 main, regional, and local roads in Serbia, due to the poor state of agriculture which they evaluate as – catastrophic.
In addition, they stated that they are breaking off every dialogue with the Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić due to, as they stated, a series of his incorrect and offensive statements about farmers – from claims that the profit per cow is 4,000 euros, that producers are ‘drunk millionaires’ who ‘wear Rolex watches’, to accusations that they are petty politicians.
