The College of Business has two candidates running for two seats in the Iowa State University Student Government Senate
The candidates for this year’s elections are:
- Ethan Fligge, a junior majoring in supply chain management.
- Luv Saini, a junior majoring in marketing.
The Student Government elections will take place March 3-4, and ballots will be emailed to students’ Iowa State email addresses.
Student Government exists to serve and represent all students, according to the student organization database. They annually distribute $2.6 million in student fee revenue to organizations on campus and in Story County.
The following interview with the candidates was conducted by email. Saini did not respond to the Daily’s several requests for an interview.
What are your qualifications for being a Senator?
Fligge: “Beyond my current service in the Senate, I bring a unique blend of operational management and entrepreneurial experience. Having managed local businesses and served as a Shift Manager, I understand how to handle budgets, lead teams and solve problems under pressure. My background as a published author also helps me communicate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences.”
What are the most significant issues facing your constituents, and how will you address them?
Fliggie: “The most significant issues for Ivy students are professional readiness and resource accessibility. As a triple major, I see the pressure to secure high-level internships and navigate complex curricula. I plan to address this by strengthening the bridge between Student Government and Ivy’s career services to ensure all students have access to networking opportunities. And advocating for expanded study spaces and technical resources within the Gerdin Business Building to match our growing enrollment.”
Why should students vote for you?
Fliggie: “Students should vote for me because I believe in “Owning the Outcome.” I don’t just identify problems; I apply a business-minded, data-driven approach to solving them. I am committed to being a transparent, accessible representative who understands the rigors of the Ivy curriculum and the ambition of its student body.”
What role(s) have you held in Student Government and when?
Fliggie: “I have served as a Senator for the Ivy College of Business since my appointment in November 2025.”
Why do you want to return to Student Government, and what are you most proud of during your time in Student Government?
Fliggie: “I want to return because my first term was about learning the ropes and initiating projects that I want to see through to completion. I am most proud of my ability to represent the specific interests of business students during legislative sessions and ensuring our college’s voice is heard in campus-wide decisions. I want to build on that momentum to create even more tangible benefits for the Ivy community.”
