Hi all, there has been a lot of snow recently but today the temperature is higher, it started raining and there’s slush everywhere.

I live on the ground floor, and I have a wide balcony. When I opened the balcony door today, I saw snow right at the door.

it’s just at the balcony door, nowhere else on the entire balcony.

How is it possible? it’s been raining, not snowing, and my balcony is closed by glass panels that are nowhere near the door.

These balconies are not sealed from each other so there’s a very tiny gap above the door that leads to the balcony upstairs, but it’s so small! this building has 6 floors, how can snow have reached my balcony on the ground floor? On a rainy day?

I am baffled, please help me explain this 😅

  1. Atleast here in the Tampere region today, before it got over 0 degrees, there was a ton of the powder kind of snow that is very fine and gets everywhere. Any place it could get, it would blow in there somewhere, it was a pain to clean out before it turned to “suojalumi” aka the snow suitable for making snowballs in Finnish. I presume there is a gap somewhere, doesnt matter how small it gets everywhere regardless.

Snow came in through the gaps between glass panels and wind pushed it further towards the door.

  3. It isn’t a proper snow storm unless there are mini tornadoes around every corner (especially on the lee side where air spirals from wind side around the building)…
