Today I saw the news about Lela – a woman, who is 15 weeks pregnant and is being denied life-saving treatment. Right now she’s being fed by the tube due to the horrendous state her digestive system is in.
I’m a young polish woman and this is so wrong. I know that there are so many reasons as to why our birth rate is declining but this situation sparked something in me: helplessness.
I have been attending Black Protests since 2016. Hearing all the time, that the ban would never happen, that no woman would die, that it’s only a substitute topic for real issues.
I suppose after 2020, when everyone lost their power to fight, it was replaced with apathy. When I talk with people who have children they tell me horror stories about their pregnancy experience. I know maybe two couples in my friends circle that want to have children one day. It’s just safer not to.
As for now at least 7 women had died, one was sent to psych ward isolation and her doctor is being trashed until this day. Please, don’t forget them.

There are not many sources for non-polish speaking people as the case is fresh, but I guess you can read something more here (if someone has a better source let me know): https://sign.myvoice-mychoice.org/forms/solidarity-with-lela-eng

i thought about going from america to poland but then i hear about stuff like this and im like damn itd probably be exactly the same anyway just with none of my friends
That is truly, truly awful! I was about to say that it is medieval, but in those times, they did not have the medical choice. We do now. And yet, it is still not a choice. And in the circumstances such as Lela it is torture.
All my closest friends who decided on having kids – only decided on it when they left Poland and emigrated.
One has autistic twins – she was denied any help here. Her kids have assistant teacher in Denmark, she got her house lease from the city, with lower rent tier to avoid kids having to change schools or houses due to their autism.
One decided on third kid!
One, living in Norway, was magically cured of tokophobia after few visits woth Norske gynecologist respecting her body and choices.Shes 5 months preggo.
I could go on an on and on.
All the friends here in Pl? decided not to have kids even if they previously wanted to. But not after Black Marches, not after Przyłębska, not after Iza’s death.
Signed the document. I am really afraid that it can happen to me, they will just let me die if I have a pregnancy with complications
How do you know better than doctors what is needed to save her life?
https://oko.press/lela-czeka-na-aborcje
Here is an article but there is no information from medical staff that abortion is nessesary to help her
Its sad that after you get hospitalized in Poland you are basically on the staffs mercy
For anyone who would need it, there are abortion clinics in Czechia that specialise in helping Polish women. I’m a bit removed from the topic since it doesnt touch me anymore, but last time I checked, there was even one that offered picking up the client at her house, driving to the clinic, a 2 day stay, psychological help, and return trip straight to the house, and it was affordable.
Horrible. I hate how religious fundamentalists want everyone else to live by THEIR RULES. It should be unacceptable in this day and age in a modern European country. Just signed the document.
Unfortunately, the style of your statement is extremely one-sided and biased. I don’t know whether you are doing this intentionally to add drama and exaggerate the situation so that it fits your thesis, but you describe abortion in this case as a “procedure” that saves the mother’s life, which is a complete manipulation and has no basis in facts.
The facts are that the child is healthy, and the mother (a citizen of Georgia) is under very good medical care and has a very high chance of recovery. I sincerely hope she makes a full recovery
i wasn’t certain before, but this horrible law is the main reason why i am never getting pregnant and making my username real as soon as possible
