  1. Little shits trying to find justification to be little shits.

like the little shits that trash museum stuff.

    little shits 😐

  2. I find the rawness of war criminal paint a bit too much personally, so I opted for roadkill deer as the primary colour for the living room. But each to their own.

  3. Was Churchill a war criminal, by our standards, yes.

But at the same time you can’t put today’s moral values on someone 80 years ago, who was and his country was. In a very extreme situation.

  4. I understand actions like this. However I’m also afraid that it could be contra productive, as it would encourage more people to support the far rights rhetoric of an ICE-style force here on our side of the Atlantic.

stupid people doing stupid things, doing this is not going to get sympathy for Palestine

There’s no such thing as heroes, just monsters on your side.

Was he a monster? Yes. Was he necessary? Also yes.

He was also a soldier, who faced combat directly and didn’t ask others to do what he hadn’t already done. So he’s worthy of respect for that.

Too little nuanced thinking these days.

If I wanted to turn mainstream people against any particular cause then I would do this.

The graffiti says “Zionist war criminal” not just “war criminal”. And that changes a lot.

I have a bit of sympathy. Putting someone up on a pedestal is a bit misleading in that it suggests this is a better person that everyone should try to emulate. But in reality no one is perfect.

It’s not the person of Churchill that should be up on the pedestal, it’s the job he did in wartime thats worth remembering. And the lesson worth being learned is that no matter your flaws, everyone can make a contribution.

At the same time he thought that supporting zionism would be strategically useful.for Britain and that arabs there were “less developed” people that needed some “civilisation”.

These nuances are hard to put across with a statue. But it might help if Churchill was depicted in some WW2 work scene instead of just standing there as if everything he did was a win.

  9. I mean yeah he was a bit of a twat but why not focus on the war criminals of today rather than one coming up to nearly 100 years ago.

  10. Bet its some uni students with their morals and values up their arses thinking they are morally superior.

  11. We were down and out in WW2, this man rallied the troops and motivated them to fight for our country. These scumbag vandals should be imprisoned.

  12. These guys aren’t “progressives” or “leftists” these are ideologists who just like the die hard reform lot and the Maga’s, incels etc etc are in a way victims of this world we find ourselves in where you can end up with such extreme bubbles and media holes.

Any fan of history will tell you about the complicated story of Churchill and the crimes of the era he was part of, but actions like this just feed into such a negative narrative.

  13. “Diversity Is Strength! War Is Peace!”

Modern UK State. No doubt engineered to result this way.

  14. Unwashed uni student vandalises British war hero’s statue and pushes more people to the right. Good job clowns.

There’s no way this Palestine people aren’t paid by a terrorist group, nothing they do makes sense

  16. Took a bastard to stop a cataclysmically bigger bastard. That’s now an important part our country’s history and no amount of feet stomping and vandalism is going to undo it.

I look forward to how we will be judged in 80 years by another group of youths. The youths of today should not forget they will too be judged harshly for the manners of their times. They too will do harm and good. Some terrible and obvious from the distance of time.

  18. Passed by this this morning. National media all gearing up. This is not going to go well for the Palestinian activists. I can’t believe they’ve been so stupid as to vandalise this particular statue…

  19. I’m as anti-Churchill as they come, especially for his colonial and racist views, and more importantly actions, but this is the first time I’m hearing about war criminal. What is that based on?

  20. The first officers were on the scene within two minutes. The man – who is 38 – was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage.”

Just remember when you call for Police for anything that they will always get there quicker for a statue than for you.
