Albanian President Bajram Begaj said  Friday that ethnic Albanians in North Macedonia have been and remain a key factor for political stability and the country’s Euro-Atlantic advancement.

Speaking at a joint news conference with North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova during an official visit to Skopje, Begaj stressed the importance of fully implementing the Albanian language and safeguarding equality mechanisms.

“The full implementation of the Albanian language, which is linked to the Albanian national identity, and the preservation of the functioning of equality mechanisms are not merely technical issues; they are essential elements for social cohesion, institutional stability and the European perspective,” Begaj said.

Siljanovska-Davkova said that “there are always issues between neighbors that deserve special attention,” without elaborating further.

Ethnic Albanians make up a significant portion of North Macedonia’s population and have played an influential role in the country’s political and institutional development.
