Realistically they’ve been a few months to a year away for a while now (at least since the 2000s) and have been using it as leverage/bargaining chip against the US. They could develop it by the end of the year if they really wanted to.

if only there was some way of representing numbers in a visual way on a y axis that would make this more readable.

While trump’s claims are almost certainly false There is missing context in this timeline multiple cyber attacks and other sabotage operations and assassinations that did set Iran’s nuclear program back multiple times. Active denial operations have prevented Iran from getting a nuclear weapon for years.
5minArgument on
No need to pretend any of this has to do with nuclear weapons. The US has been bombing and killing Iranians for decades.
We made a deal with the UK for 40% of Iranian oil back in the 1950’s. We want our oil.
Laffs on
The timelines are for how long Iran would need to finish building a bomb if they decided to. Iran has intentionally stayed very close to building a bomb but never finished it… so all these claims are accurate and they have been right to be very concerned.

Why exactly are like 60% of the data points on the same y axis? This chart is anything *but* beautiful.

But wait, I thought this very administration boldly stated their entire nuclear program was destroyed in their unilateral strike of “Operation Midnight Hammer” last year? lol.
In fact Trump explicitly said it was “Obliterated” and setting the program back, “basically decades.”
How many times must people be conned before they start to wake up?

So in 1993 I was about 4 weeks away from being able to bake cookies. I didn’t even have an oven in my house, a 240v outlet, or a truck to pick one up from the store. I would need to organize delivery and get an electrician if I wanted to bake cookies.
In 2009 I’m now 4 hours away from being able to bake cookies. I have an oven installed but I don’t have a recipe, and I don’t have a device with internet to look one up. I also don’t have the ingredients on hand. I have to go to the library and copy a recipe, then go to the store and pick up ingredients.
In 2020 I’m 2 hours away from being able to bake cookies. I have the recipe printed on my oven for quick use but I still have to go to the store.
In 2025 I’m 20 minutes away from cookies. I always have some premade dough in the fridge. Every time it expires I replace it.
I still haven’t made my cookies though, because I don’t want to start WW3.

There’s a video of Benjamin Netanyahu saying Iran is “days from developing a nuke” over the course of 30 years. This man has been trying to drum up fear for nearly my entire lifetime. It’s all geopolitics.

But but Trump claimed Iran’s nuke program had been “obliterated” in last summer’s air strike.

To be honest, you don’t build nuclear reactors under mountains and with reinforced structures because you want it for civilian use. This rhetoric (Iran is days away from nuclear weapons) is better than underestimating a terrorism sponsoring state’s nuclear capabilities.

We’ve been messing with them to try to derail them like with stuxnet and all that, but we’re only delaying the inevitable. Absent direct military intervention they’re gonna eventually succeed.

This is really good data
Can you split up the overlapping timelines
Just split them up vertically, just bunch them in different bands rather bunching them in a single line
Very worthy of a re-upload. Most people view on phones and the graph can be more tall. There is no y axis , so I think it should be easy
