Only around ten Croatian citizens are currently in Iran, Croatia’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday, as tensions escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel.
According to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, approximately twenty Croatian nationals had previously been in the country, but some have since left. “About ten remain in Iran,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that no Croatian citizen has so far requested consular assistance.
The announcement came after the United States and Israel carried out coordinated attacks on Iranian targets earlier in the day, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions.
Embassy Previously Evacuated
Croatia’s embassy in Tehran had already been evacuated prior to the latest developments, including Ambassador Drago Štambuk. One staff member, however, remains on the ground, the ministry confirmed.
Officials said the situation is being closely monitored and that Croatian authorities are in regular contact regarding developments.
The ministry did not provide further details about the locations or circumstances of the remaining Croatian nationals in Iran but emphasized that no formal requests for assistance had been received.
As the security situation continues to evolve, European governments have begun reassessing their diplomatic presence in the region, with several countries advising citizens to exercise caution or leave affected areas.
