Wiz Khalifa may be headed to prison after his appeal for drug possession was rejected by a Romanian court this week.
The decision comes after the rapper filed to annul his nine-month sentence last month. Wiz (real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz) was arrested by Romanian police in July 2024 after allegedly smoking cannabis during his performance at Beach, Please! Festival. Prosecutors claim that the 38-year-old was in possession of more than 18 grams of the illegal drug.
Wiz appeared to have owned up to the incident in a post on X from July 14, where he apologized to the country for “lighting up on stage.” “They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time,” he continued.
Last April, Wiz was initially fined 3,600 lei ($830 USD) for the “illegal possession of dangerous drugs” before it was appealed for a higher sentence. The rapper’s appeal was deemed unfounded and the case is ongoing.
Wiz has been impacted by back-to-back bad news as of late, and announced earlier this month that his father, Laurence W. Thomaz, had died.
“I will always love him, miss him and be [grateful] for the things he taught me. He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W. Thomaz,” Wiz shared on X.
The rapper then hopped on his Instagram Stories to share photos with his father from his childhood. “Love you big guy,” he captioned them.
Wiz had a close relationship with his father, who previously spoke about how the birth of Wiz’s son, Sebastian, changed the rapper for the better.
“Sebastian’s matured him, but it’s made him more serious and understand: ‘I have to be here; I can’t do the dangerous, reckless things I was doing before: I have this little guy to look out for,’” Thomaz said in a 2019 documentary.
