Macedonian Minister of Health, Azir Ali, announced the revocation of the licenses for the cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes from six companies, after inspections revealed “serious inconsistencies” in their operations. The minister explained this in a press conference at the government headquarters. The irregularities discovered include improper storage of dried flowers, inconsistent notifications to the relevant Commission, and the failure to submit complete documentation for the sale and transfer of products.
So far, inspections have been carried out on 13 companies, and in the coming weeks, inspections will cover all 43 companies licensed to grow cannabis for medical use. This initiative follows recent seizures of large quantities of marijuana in the country and suspicions of irregularities in production reported in recent months. Aliu also announced a new regulatory solution that will be implemented once the inspections are complete.
