Member states should position EU as “global champion” of academic freedom, Commission recommends to Council
The EU should make more use of science diplomacy to achieve its broad political aims, including increased economic competitiveness, the European Commission has said.
The suggestion came in a proposal for the Council of the EU governments, published on 27 February, which says increased geostrategic rivalry has made research and innovation “a critical asset, translating into power, competitiveness and geopolitical influence”.
