Greece is stepping up its military support for Cyprus following a drone attack on a British air base on the island, Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias said on Monday.
Athens will deploy two frigates and two F-16 fighter jets to the neighbouring EU island, Dendias told Greek broadcaster ERTNews. The warships are equipped with modern air and drone defence systems.
The move follows an overnight drone attack on the British air force base at Akrotiri, near the port city of Limassol.

There was initially no confirmed information about where the drone was launched from or who may have deployed it.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said the drone was of the Shahed type, which is primarily produced in Iran.
