Refractory manufacturer Magneco/Metrel completed the installation of a full crown on a regenerator furnace for an Italian float glass manufacturer.
The 10-ton crown was cast in place using Metpump AP, Magneco’s monolithic colloidal silica refractory product.
The install also included repairs to the upper structure.
Metpump material was available and onsite within seven days from order placement.
The crown casting process was completed in four hours, and the material was hard in 24 hours – a shorter install time than conventional refractory materials.
Because Metpump AP is monolithic, seams are minimised, increasing thermal efficiency and reducing energy costs/emissions.
Additionally, Metpump AP is lime-free offering better erosion protection, alkali resistance, and lower maintenance/hot repairs.
Metpump products, which include precast shapes, cast in place and shotcrete, are used in non-contact areas of the glass furnace for crowns, upper structures, end walls, and ports.
The service life of Metpump products is equal to or greater standard conventional block.
