
Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis met European Council President Antonio Costa, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on Tuesday ahead of the European Council meeting on March 19.
According to sources at the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the discussion focused on the European Union’s economic situation in the context of the complex geopolitical environment.
It was agreed that the economic impact of developments in the Middle East, particularly on energy prices, should be closely monitored.
The international role of the euro was also discussed, with the aim of strengthening its position in the global financial system.
Talks also addressed progress toward the Savings and Investments Union, that Pierrakakis champions.
