I’m sick to death of it. I don’t drive so I end up having to walk two massive bags for life rustling with bottles and cans. Honestly, if I was any further out than I am from a supermarket, I would just consider it a plastic bottle tax and stick them in my recycling (that I still also pay for, and was working fine before the whole DRS thing).

I have a hack for the return scheme if you shop at Dunnes. Get a dunnes voucher card and when you do your returns get them to put the money from the receipt onto it instead of off your shopping.
You can even add the gift voucher to your dunnes app.
We did this for a full year and then used the money on the gift card for the Christmas shop. We had saved €190. 35 in return money. That paid for all our Christmas booze and some nice treats.

It made me realize some people buy a ton of cans and bottles. Maybe it will make people drink less sugar drinks

Made over 120e last tear, all free.
It was other peoples cans, I’d spot them walking home so next to no extra work.
It’s great making free money for next to no effort from stupid lazy people 😅

I’ve actually started to avoid buying cans since it came in , probably use it twice a year maybe

Yes, it’s just getting your dubiously taken money back. They have us doing work for free.

I think it’s a good idea, less litter about the place. Any I find while out for a walk with the dog I bring them home and it’s free money. We’re putting it all onto a gift card to have for the Christmas.

I save up the cans and scatter them over Martin’s lawn each Saturday.
I saw somewhere putting the full price on the label the other day again and appreciated it so much more than the bullshit of price + 15c

I let my 12 year old organise the bottle return and save the money up for lego. He washes and collects the return stuff and brings it in the car then does the machine. He had been doing it about 6 months before i realised he didnt know how it actually works, didn’t realise the deposit aspect existed

Has anyone ever seen a politician at the machines by any chance? Was thinking it the other day while I was standing there hands manky, having a can after can of Heineken rejected despite 20 of them going in before, that there’s not a hope politicians are doing it themselves, it’s a humiliation ritual for the poors.

It’s a pain in the fucking hole. We’re all being penalised because of the cunts that don’t care. I fully understand why it had to be done. Doesn’t mean I can’t bitch about it.

What was wrong with the fact the majority of people were using their green bins for their plastic bottles?

I still maintain it should only be on bottles smaller than 1L.
Everyone buying 1.5-2L are consuming them at home and the vast majority were being recycled in the green at home already.
You only ever see 500ml/750ml bottle and 330ml/500ml cans that people drink on the go thrown on the ground and into general waste bins.

When this came in I switched my cold drink of choice to the cartons of ribena, no DRS.
I find it very interesting how the cardboard ribena cartons have become very hard to find lately and a LOT of shops have only the plastic bottles instead. DRS applied and much more expensive than the little carton.
Many many shops will have no choice whatsoever for a cold drink in a non plastic or metal container. That removes the “reduce” option straight away.
Where possible I now buy capri sun instead but not everywhere sells those.
I’m waiting for those to also start appearing in plastic bottles with the foil option gone.

My dog hates this scheme. He hasn’t found a bottle to pick up and chew while out on his walk in over a year or struggled with the dilemma of multiple bottles encountered at once.

I got a small keg and a co2 tank and started homebrewing, I only buy cans now if I’m going to a party.
