The 2026 Milano Cortina Paralympic Winter Games begins its ten-day run.

An opening ceremony was held at the two-thousand-year-old Verona Arena on Friday, local time under the theme, “Life in Motion.”

Just like the opening of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics last month, the Paralympic Games opened simultaneously in both host cities of Milano and Cortina d’Ampezzo in northern Italy.

Team Korea appeared 15th out of 55 countries in the Parade of Nations, with para-alpine skier Park Chae-yi and para snowboarder Lee Chung-min attending in person and para cross-country skier Kim Yun-ji and wheelchair curler Lee Yong-suk virtually serving as flag bearers.

A combined 79 medal events in six sports will be held at three clusters in Milano, Cortina D’Ampezzo and Val di Fiemme.

Twenty athletes representing South Korea will compete in para alpine skiing, para biathlon, para cross-country skiing, para snowboard and wheelchair curling, and Team Korea is aiming to win one gold medal and one bronze medal to make the top 20.
