A bilateral Cyprus-Greece search and rescue (SAR) exercise, named “Salamis -01/26”, was held on Sunday, in which the frigate “Kimon” also participated.
Larnaca’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC) said in a press release that “the exercise was held within the Search and Rescue Area of Responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus, with the participation of the Frigate “Kimon” of the Hellenic Navy, a helicopter of the 460th Search and Rescue Squadron of the National Guard as well as a helicopter of the Police Air Operations Unit.”
It further added that “the exercise, coordinated by the Larnaca JRCC, in collaboration with the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and the General Staff of the National Guard, is part of the existing Interstate Agreement on SAR between Cyprus and Greece. The provisions of the Agreement are activated in these specific exercises to upgrade the SAR services provided in the eastern Mediterranean.”
