Turkey deploys 6 F-16 jets, air defense systems to Cyprus’ occupied north

Turkey has deployed 6 F-16 fighter jets and air defense systems to Turkish-occupied northern Cyprus, the country’s Defense Ministry said on Monday.

On Saturday, ‌a Turkish Defence Ministry source told Reuters Ankara was considering the ​deployment of F-16 aircraft , among other ​steps being taken to ensure ⁠the security ‌of ​Turkish Cypriots as ‌conflict ⁠spreads ⁠in the ​region.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is traveling to Cyprus on Monday where he will meet with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Cyprus’ main air base on its southwestern edge where four Greek air force F-16s have been deployed.
