The exhibition “Free National Gallery — Description of a Struggle” at Prague City Gallery in Czechia features works by Slovak artists who say their position within state-supported institutions at home has been weakened.

On display are pieces that had been exhibited at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava before leadership changes and institutional restructuring under the government of Robert Fico triggered protests across Slovakia’s cultural sector.

Moving between Bratislava and Prague, DW explores how a domestic cultural dispute has evolved into a wider debate about artistic freedom.
