Belarus’ experience in constructing and operating a nuclear power plant is very valuable to Uzbekistan – as noted by Rakhmatulla Nazarov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus, following his today’s meeting with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA reports

According to the diplomat, nuclear energy is a promising area for co-operation between the two countries. “Belarus has achieved significant success in this area,” he emphasised. “Of course, the experience the Belarusian side has already acquired is very valuable to us.”

In particular, the development of a city for nuclear specialists, as exemplified by Belarusian Ostrovets where a nuclear power plant operates, is of particular interest. “This is very important for our working group, which – I very much hope – will visit Belarus in the near future and study the Belarusian experience firsthand,” Rakhmatulla Nazarov said.

Preparations are currently underway in Uzbekistan for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Farish District of the Jizzakh Region. The project is planned to be implemented in co-operation with Russia’s Rosatom.

During his today’s meeting with the diplomat, the President of Belarus offered Uzbekistan assistance from Belarusian specialists in the nuclear power plant construction. “We are aware of your interest in our specialists for the construction of the nuclear power plant. We have mastered such expertise thanks to the Russians. Together with them, we work all around the globe in places where they are building nuclear power units. If this suits you, you can come whenever you need. They [representatives of the Uzbek side] will meet with the specialists, discuss the issues – and the minister will give the go-ahead. We will facilitate the construction of your nuclear power plant. We will do our best to ensure that our specialists provide you with all possible assistance. You will see for yourself how we can be of interest to you,” the President said.
