The 2027 Six Nations will open and close in Ireland following Monday’s confirmation of the fixtures for the 144th edition of the tournament.
Andy Farrell’s side will host England to begin Round One on a Friday night next February and will then welcome France in the final match of Round Five in March.
Those games on February 5 and March 13 are two of three Ireland fixtures scheduled for night-time kick-offs, as they have also been given a Friday night 8:10pm start for their Round Four match away to Scotland on March 5.
Having opened their Six Nations campaign in Dublin, England will then host France at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, February 14. That’s a Valentine’s Day billing for Le Crunch in sharp contrast to next Saturday when the sides meet in Paris to bring the curtain down on the 2026 tournament.
Calcutta Cup
Next year’s Sunday roast for England against France will be followed by the hosting of Italy on February 20 before their schedule concludes with the games away to Wales on March 6 and home to Scotland seven days later on March 13.
It will be the first time since the dramatic 38-all draw in London with the Scots in 2019 that the Calcutta Cup fixture has been scheduled as a Round Five match.
In keeping with this year’s change to the window for playing the tournament, 2027 will see the five rounds of matches played across six weekends, with just one fallow week.
Until this year, the tournament had adopted a pattern of having two fallow weeks and taking seven weeks to complete the five rounds.
Whereas France has staged some matches outside Paris in recent years, playing Ireland in Marseille, Italy in Lille and England in Lyon in 2024 and returning to Lille last month for another clash with the Azzurri, both their home game in 2027 against Wales and Scotland will take place at Stade de France, their traditional home in Paris.
The six countries will play for a new Six Nations trophy next year after severe fire damage to the original trophy during this year’s championship.
Stuart Barnes: Either Maro Itoje is an idiot or England are over-coached… I know which I believe
Brian Moore: The England issues that are ‘getting monotonous’ and would ‘vex an under-14s team’
