Religious or personal beliefs, a lot of poles are already distrustfull of change and how the lgbt community appears in media ie. marches and big colourfull, overwhelming groups is not helping. From what i saw from wuite a lot of apolitical poles, they dont really want anything new that is as i mentioned overwhelming so often they conciously or nof oppose those ideals.

Poles have a more postivie view of homosexuality than the United States for example.
Also over 50% of Poles support gay marriages.
The thing is that the same can’t be said about biggest political parties. For example many centrist people wouldn’t mind gay marriages, but their chosen party is Civic Coalition that’s against it.

many of them are not against two men living with each other like partners. they are against the word ‘marriage’ being used in the context of two men instead of a man and a woman. when you realize that you will understand that the problem is deaper than just opposing for the sake of opposition. for them it’s about their history, their values. the country is historically very entangled with religion. from their viewpoint, marriage is not just a personal contract between two individuals, but a foundational societal institution with a specific, historically defined meaning. most poles are actually fine with civil partnership. the problem is with the word ‘marriage’ and what it means for them. doesn’t make it right, of course.

Poles are not against gay marriage. The majority of Poles are actually pro but conservative politicians are against and if this who make law are against, it’s hard to make it happen so we are looking for an alternative, like in Japan. Love is love

Even so it got much better lately you need to understand that there is still a lot of politics and propaganda created by church and right wing parties. A lot that you hear about Poland is more what government is doing/saying not what people in Poland really think.
