Russia poses a threat not only to Ukraine but also to European countries that are already aware of the risks of possible provocations from the Kremlin.
This was stated by the President of the Bundestag, Julia Klöckner, ahead of a meeting with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Key Points of the Meeting
Klöckner stressed that Europe understands the danger in various aspects – not only regarding Ukraine but for the whole continent, particularly through hybrid actions and cyberattacks, which are becoming relevant for Germany and other countries as well.
“We – Germans and also other European countries – clearly understand that Russia has its sights set on more than Ukraine. By the way, I can say that the topic of hybrid warfare, cyberattacks, and so on has grown significantly – even against the German Bundestag. Russia is a major threat, we know that. Therefore we assess the situation very realistically. We do not rule out anything Putin may plan.”
– Julia Klöckner
Putin understands the consequences of potential actions against NATO member states.
“But he also knows that if NATO territory were attacked – it would trigger a very clear reaction”
– Julia Klöckner
The President of the Bundestag emphasized the need to curb Kremlin funding and assured that Germany is focused on supporting Ukraine, despite world events.
She also highlighted the importance of further reforms in Ukraine, notably in the fight against corruption, and noted the significant role of parliament during wartime.
Separately, Klöckner highlighted Ukraine’s experience in countering drones and hybrid threats as valuable for partners, including NATO.
“You have developed incredible expertise in drone detection and countering drones”
– Julia Klöckner
This experience is being used by Ukraine’s partners, including NATO member countries.
