But it is credible that launching drones from a ship offshore is a way of attacking any part of the US that borders international waters, but we also do a pretty decent job of patrolling and monitoring those… so this is likely just responsible preparation. But this administration has eroded confidence in federal institutions and agencies, even though they are still staffed by plenty of competent and honorable people trying to serve the country (as evidenced by my joke about nepotism above as being pretty credible).

I would be more concerned if Iran started using sea drones like Ukraine did in the Black Sea. Without a significant increase in forces (including boots on the ground) to secure the coastline, they could cripple commerce in the area pretty much indefinitely.

Okay. Lets entertain Iranian drones somehow have the range to hit Cali or they have stuff ready to take them there or whatever. If they could do anything like that, would they not just use that stuff to hit places like Diego Garcia? That has way more military and strategic value than causing some explosions at Los Angeles and terrifying a few Americans or something. A large part of Iranian strikes have been meant for some larger strategic purpose. Most of their Israel strikes have been targetted at soaking up the Iron Dome. Most of their strikes on the Gulf countries have been hitting either bases or oil infrastructure, all of which’s destruction will be critical for any victory, lasting or otherwise, over the USA. Even if they didn’t hit Diego Garcia, they could still hit the Straits of Malacca or something with that kind of range, or more likely the Suez Canal to cripple Egypt, a major opponent of theirs, while also cutting off the last Saudi outbound oil coming out of Jeddah, thats all going through the Suez into Europe. And also forcing any new American military vessels being deployed to the Gulf to go around all of Africa. And dealing a big blow to global trade by cutting the second most used waterway in the world off. All of these have much more strategic and tangible benefits than bombing Cali. So why exactly would the Ayatollahs do that?

Just so we’re clear, California is over 7400 miles away from Iran. On the contrary, the east coast is around 700-800 miles away. So, if Iran is gonna attack any part of the US, it’ll be the place of easier access that can be quicker to strike AND has a better chance of getting rid of major political adversaries (since ya know, over 70% of America’s politicians reside IN DC half the time).
