Twelve US congressmen and senators have written to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing their deep concern over reports that the Trump Administration may withdraw US forces from the NATO mission in Kosovo.

“At a time of political sensitivity and increased influence of external factors in the Western Balkans, a premature reduction of the US presence risks destabilizing not only Kosovo, but also the broader region, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina. We call on you to maintain the level of US forces to protect United States national interests in the Western Balkans,” the congressmen’s letter, sent on March 11, states.

Among other things, it is said that any reduction in American military personnel could have significant consequences, not only for the operational capacities of the peacekeeping force, but also for the weakening of KFOR’s role as a political deterrent.
