The IDF is reportedly planning a massive ground operation into southern Lebanon and south of the Litani River, where most of Hezbollah’s rocket and drone launch sites are located. Israeli forces are currently already operating in southern Lebanon on a limited scale (since 2024), but this upcoming operation would be the largest expansion since 2006.
Under the current ceasefire, the Lebanese Military and UN are supposed to be disarming and taking over Hezbollah’s territory in southern Lebanon, however this has failed to materialize and rocket launches have continued.

My personal theory is Israel at some point in the last year or so has concluded that they’ve lost the Western youth support permanently and they may never get it back, so they’re going all in while they have an ally in the White House with the goal of completely leveling the Axis of Resistance before they lose support.
They’ve recovered from low support in the west before, twice actually, (once in the late 50s early 60s becuase they were kind of chummy with the Soviets and Truman and Eisenhower didn’t support the Israel project and the Suez Crisis), and once in the early mid 80s following their extremely bloody invasion of Lebanon).
The first time, Hollywood siding with them helped a lot as well. Exodus was a HUGE success and it was a pro-Israel film ( the song “This Land is Mine” is from that movie), the WW2 vets coming to power helped as that generation is rabidly pro Israel and still is. also helpful was their enemies allying with the Soviets(Egypt and Suez regret).
In the 80s the media got off their backs once they pulled back from Beirut and focused back on Saddam after things cooled down so the public eventually warmed back. Plus both Iraq and Iran going crazy made Israel seem helpful again.
Social media doesn’t work that way, things are filmed an order of magnitude more and even if the news drops it that doesn’t go away the way it used to. Algorithms make that more extreme. People don’t just align with the news, and once fringe opinions can speak to million of others. I’d argue by January 2024 the western progressive left was already permanently lost as Free Palestine became THE foreign policy issue. Even if wars end for a while and CNN has nothing, but good things to say, the Tumblr and Hassan crowd is never coming back.
And the young right is slipping fast, that’s barely above water. Once the /pol/ and groypers take over that’s the end of that gravy train. They fucking HATE Israel and they don’t pretty up the language either.
Meanwhile the Israeli electorate has swung massively to the right as backlash to all this.
So I see this all as Israel going all in to close the fronts and take out all their enemies in one go before they lose western backing.
