St. Mary’s Health Care System will host a community health fair on Tuesday, March 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Athens Regional Library. The event was originally scheduled for January but was postponed due to snow, ice and cold temperatures in Athens.
The fair will promote overall health and well-being by bringing together a variety of service providers and organizations offering free services and information, according to a press release. St. Mary’s staff, including physicians from Community Internal Medicine of Athens, will provide services such as blood pressure screenings, diabetes prevention and A1C screenings, infection control information, nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian, heart attack care (CPR) and end-of-life care information.
Athens Neighborhood Health Center and Advantage Behavioral Health Services will be present, providing information and other services. Athens Pop Up Park will provide a free mobile activity bus with games and activities and the Athens-Clarke County Library social worker will be available.
Other community-based organizations will provide services and education related to overall health.
The library, located at 2025 Baxter Street, is served by Athens Transit and provides free parking. The facility is also ADA-compliant and offers handicapped parking.
The event is free and open to the public.
