South Korea suffered a ten-nil mercy-rule loss to the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic(WBC) quarterfinals on Saturday, with the game ending after seven innings.

The national team’s disappointing loss at Miami’s loanDepot park on Saturday, Korean Standard Time, came after qualifying for the WBC knockout stage for the first time in 17 years.

South Korean starter Ryu Hyun-jin allowed three runs on three hits in just one and two-thirds of an inning.

The national team permitted four more runs in the third, before the game was eventually called in the bottom of the seventh when Austin Wells hit a three-run homer.

The South Korean side was limited to two hits and struck out eight over five scoreless frames.
