ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – WDBJ7 spoke with Senator Mark Warner, who called the conflict with Iran a “war of choice.”
Warner said he doesn’t believe there was an imminent threat to the United States.
While President Trump has outlined several different goals, Warner argues the U.S. is not close to meeting any of them.
“The new supreme leader in Iran is actually worse than the last. And we’ve killed his father, his wife, and his kids. So, I don’t think there’s any sign of regime change. Trying to get out of Iran’s enriched uranium, which would require troops on the ground. I don’t think Americans want to send their sons and daughters into a ground war in Iran. Getting rid of their ballistic missile capability, we have cut back on some of that. But they still have literally thousands of drones that are attacking other countries in the region,” said Senator Warner.
Warner also warned that Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz—where about 20% of the world’s oil passes—drives up prices.
He said Americans will see higher costs for gas, aluminum, and jet fuel.
