What’s really happened is that Trump has realised this isn’t going to be an easy fight, he’s seen that his navy can’t keep the strait open and secure, its sending global markets into turmoil and he wants an off ramp. So when the economy goes down the pan he can say it wasn’t his fault but it was Europe for not sending the support to keep the strait open…. that only closed after he started a war

Back in elementary school, there was a kid who would pick fights with others for no reason, get beaten up, and then try to rally his classmates to gang up on the kid who beat him.
This is pretty much the same, but at a strategic level. Yes, tactically the US forces are vastly superior, but what matters is that on the strategic level they are getting their asses whooped and that is all that matters.
I don’t think there is a bigger admission of defeat than this. Trump started this fight, but now he does not know how to end it.
If he just declares victory and walks away, the Gulf countries are fucked, the petrodollar is fucked and ultimately the US government will no longer be able to run endless deficits. It will be the end of the empire.
He can try to escalate the conflict, but it is politically very difficult as the war grows increasingly unpopular and the continuous closure of the Strait of Hormuz causes more economic losses. The reality is that Iran can take a lot more pain than the US.
This is the result of hubris combined with ignorance. Of a “bro” culture that has contempt for intellectualism and embraces a teenager’s view of what strength and confidence are.
