Imagine If Wars Were Named Honestly

    The French and Indian War.

    Vs.

_The British and their colonists and their Native American Allies against The French and their colonists and their Native American Allies._ War

  2. This is just blatantly ignoring so many wars. There are so many wars that there is a [Wikipedia list of lists of wars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_wars). I clicked on the 1990-2002 list, which has 81 wars listed and the US “only” showed up on the page 37 times, some of which were in the references rather than the list itself.

And the “Ukraine war” is the only one of these where it is at least somewhat common to refer to it with a name that mentions the invader, “Russian invasion of Ukraine”, for obvious reasons.

I sure love Americans and the likes thinking all of history started in 1776

The American war of independence for one was essentially more akin to an anti-British coalition where at its height over half of Europe was at war with the British

The Thais and Burmese have around 36 wars on record

The French and English or Danes and Swedes have fought more wars than the Americans

The Americans were late to both world wars

China alone has fought itself more than the Americans have ever fought, same with Indian regions

  5. 80% of all conficts Americans can name are American because we are ignorant, not because we are in 80% of them.

Vietnam War wasn’t started by a US attack. Not only did it start well before any US involvement, but when the US came it was with the consent of South Vietnam helping to defend them from North Vietnamese invasion. There is a *lot* more context to be considered – the fact that South Vietnam wasn’t internationally recognized vs the fact that the whole of Vietnam had been a French colony, etc, but that is still very different than the US showing up to attack another country.

Iraq 2 is fair play. Illegal war of choice by US.

Afghanistan was a response to the Taliban hosting Al Qaeda and giving them safe harbor to conduct repeated attacks against the US, culminating in 9/11. The US had already tried working with the Taliban for a decade to allow Al Qaeda to be brought to justice. The Taliban chose terror instead. Our choices were to do what we did (with international support) or just let the attacks continue to escalate. This was a just war.

Ukraine wasn’t us at all but I agree that it is an unjust invasion. If the US deployed tomorrow to defend Ukraine with its permission I would fully support it and it would not be an attack by the US either.

Iran is the dumbest thing we’ve done in a long time and is likely to become a quagmire.

  7. I think she meant wars that the US was involved in. I mean that’s immediately what I thought when I read it the first time. However after re-reading it a couple times I could see why some people think she means all wars ever.
