Geneva, March. 14 (SANA) Qatar welcomed the Syrian government’s cooperation with the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria and the broad access granted to it, saying it enhances complementarity between national efforts and the commission’s work in supporting investigations into human rights violations.
According to the Qatar News Agency, Qatar made the remarks during the interactive dialogue with the commission held Friday in Geneva as part of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council. Doha called on the international community to continue providing technical, humanitarian and development support to Syria, work toward lifting sanctions, and take measures to stop Israeli attacks and end the occupation of Syrian territories.
Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Hamad Mohammed al-Suwaidi said Syria has gone through decades of unrest and conflicts whose effects remain, making the rebuilding and management of national institutions a complex task requiring time and considerable efforts as well as international support to strengthen national capacities and meet the aspirations of the Syrian people for stability, equality and the protection of rights.
Al-Suwaidi also praised the Syrian government’s cooperation with UN mechanisms, including the establishment of national committees concerned with transitional justice and missing persons, and welcomed the recent agreement on integrating the SDF into the Syrian National Army, describing it as a positive step toward enhancing stability and strengthening national consensus.
Earlier Friday, Syria welcomed the positive steps noted in the commission’s report following the fall of the deposed regime regarding investigation and accountability, reaffirming its commitment to a national path that balances justice and stability and strengthens the rule of law while building constructive dialogue with the commission and relevant UN bodies.
