Submission statement: A WSJ analysis of the options for securing the strait by US forces. This is a gift link (I am paying subscriber to the WSJ).
“Experts estimate it could take two ships per tanker, or a dozen ships to guard convoys of five to 10 tankers, to have the necessary air defenses. The short distances involved make shooting down missiles and drones much more difficult.”
The easiest solution is to just declare “Mission Accomplished” and stop the strikes, which is what he did last year. Iran would have to reopen the Strait because of Russian and Chinese pressure and because their own economy needs the oil trade to continue.
Trump’s ego and Netanyahu’s poll numbers won’t allow them to do that so they are instead arrogantly declaring that it’s the responsibility of the rest of the world to contribute the warships needed to secure the Strait, so that they won’t have to worry about American and Israeli sailors being killed by drones or mines and sent home in body bags in an election year.
You would have to control every foot of the Iranian coastline to stop sea drones. Good.luck.with that
If they are going to, please don’t bomb the Portuguese fort that’s been there for 400 years. Thanks.
Iran has said it will allow all countries bar Israel and US to pass through. No incentive do other countries to join in now.
Great move by Iran
just read the history and dardanelles campaign . and you know that its really difficult to do that
Quite sad that the only plan to secure Hormuz comes from a newspaper, two weeks after trump and Bibi start their “stay out of jail” war.
That’s how Vietnam started.
The Board of Peace members are certainly eager to help him.
The Strait being closed is mutually assured destruction. Leaving it closed for too long eventually puts pressure on other countries to do something about it, most notably China, which is Iran’s most important ally. So it’s not a sustainable situation regardless.
“There is nothing blocking the strait, if Iran would just stop attacking ships in the strait”
Must be the most stupid comment on a conflict ever uttered by a minister of defense/war in recorded history.
All it takes are 500 marines in Da Nang.
better off throwing money at pipelines through Oman and saudia I think and structurally nullifying the straight
If you hate America, then this war must feel like winning the Super Bowl or FIFA World Cup.
