Nebraska women’s basketball (18-12) was one of the last four teams selected into this year’s NCAA Tournament. The Huskers will play Richmond (26-7) for a chance to play as the 11 seed in the Sacramento Region, and the winner will face off with six seed Baylor in the first round.

Through 17 total tournament appearances, the Huskers are 9-17 in March Madness contests but have never had to play in a First Four matchup since the format was introduced for the women’s field in 2022. The farthest Nebraska has advanced in the tournament is the Regional Semifinal, which it has done twice, most recently in the 2012-13 season.

After losing a 20-point lead to Indiana in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament last week in Indianapolis, the Huskers spent their time off sweating out today’s selections, as well as preparing for their First Four game.

The Spiders, from the Atlantic 10 Conference, went 15-3 in conference play and lost to George Mason in the semifinals of their tournament. Richmond is led by seventh-year head coach Aaron Roussell, who has now taken the program to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year. Seniors forward Maggie Doogan and guard Rachel Ullstrom lead the team offensively, scoring 21 and 14.2 points, respectively.
