Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, have held phone talks to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation on energy security amid the Middle East crisis.

Summarizing Monday’s call, the foreign ministry in Seoul said Cho pointed out that the two countries continue to engage in high-level exchanges under their comprehensive strategic partnership, citing the two summits they held last year.

Cho proposed to Wong that their countries maintain close communication and work together based on their close cooperation in the area of energy at a time when energy security has become crucial.

In response, Wong stressed that South Korea and Australia are very important partners in the area of energy, saying she hopes their countries will communicate closely on key energy policies, including fuel price caps.
