African mercenary begs for mercy from Ukrainian drone operator before explosion (Unknown location and date)
Was posted on drone combat reddit a couple weeks ago, but not here. Possibly from 2026. Logo is cut out so can't tell which Telegram group this video originated from unfortunately. Anyone have more info pls share
Not a good look, surprised the footage was distributed.

Mercenaries fall under strict international legal prohibitions, specifically Article 47 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions and the 1989 UN Mercenary Convention, which generally outlaw their use and deny them combatant or prisoner-of-war status. They are considered individuals motivated by private gain, not members of a state’s armed forces.

I am probably gonna get terribly downvoted for this but, mercenary or not, killing a person begging for their life isn’t something you should be doing. You can’t apply any what about-ism to prove yourself right on this matter. You do not know if that person committed warcrimes or not. You can’t assume anything. But whats clear as day is that a person, a human being, begging for mercy was killed. And nothing on this planet can excuse this.
Apologies for any grammatical errors, English isn’t my first language.

How do we know that’s a mercenary and not someone promised a Russian work visa then conscripted at gunpoint?

You leave your home to travel to a foreign land to kill it’s people for pay and you expect mercy?

Many so-called mercenaries were forcibly conscripted into the RAF. Some of you are bloodthirsty madmen.

Can you not surrender to a drone? Genuine question

Russia is offering Africans jobs, then forcing them into the military when they arrive.

No discrimination there. Every invader gets the same treatment no matter where they are from.

Should have stayed home.

There’s no way to verify this as presented. The watermark’s been removed, the original Telegram source isn’t cited, and the OP from 22 days ago has been banned from Reddit. That breaks the chain of custody and makes it impossible to know if it’s been edited or miscaptioned or misinformation.

And somewhere in Africa is a family asking “Why doesn’t he ever write home?”

Incoming morons who think just because drones have been successfully able to guide surrenders to friendly positions where they can be taking captive means that it is something you must do in order for it to not be a war crime. Ukrainian soldiers love, taking Russians and even their mercenaries prisoner because it means they get some of their guys back in exchange. They absolutely do their best to capture people but lotta times they’re simply no friendly position that they can guide them to and a lot of these drones don’t exactly have the largest battery capacity to do so.

Morons saying something like “deserved” can’t understand how easy to trick poor people from poor countries into pushing them to warzone without their agreement. Those morons are most likely will never be tricked same way because they have money to not look at suspicious opportunities and think this is how everyone lives.
