BBC and other news outlets report that US counterterrorism Director Joe Kent resigned saying Iran posed no imminent threat to US. He is a former special forces soldier.
Wonder if this is the beginning of the end of Trump’s political coalition

He is absolutely correct and when everything about this US involvement in Iran is on shaky grounds and stinks from top to toe and is clinging on the very little basis it has then this is the sort of action that needs to be taken against the opposition. They are threatening media licences as well isn’t? If they criticise the war.

Foolish mistake for this administration thinking Iran campaign would yield the same result as the Venezuela situation.

I really do wonder if there is going to be a deliberate attempt to subvert any kind of investigation into this potential terror attack that’s supposedly targeting California. As if the powers that be want it to happen so that they can justify suspending or cancelling midterm elections, and certain specific people know this and are fleeing in protest or don’t wanna be around or associated when the hammer eventually drops.

Wow, he’s full on blaming Israel for manufacturing this. I mean we know it’s true, but still amazed someone involved at a high level spoke the truth and actually called it out.

My understanding is that this guy is the type of conservative that really doesn’t like Israel/Jews, so that may have influenced his decision after seeing how much this war seems to be engineered for Israel’s benefit with little benefit to the United States. I don’t fully with his views on Jews obviously but it might explain his decision.

To his credit he did at least serve and risked his life many times

I wonder what Israel’s reaction to this will be if it becomes a more popular stance among top officials. Have they overplayed their hand?

Joe Kent, director of US National Counterterrorism Center, in Portland, Oregon, resigned to protest against the Israel + USA vs Iran war.
In his resignation letter to Donald Trump, Joseph Kent said ‘Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.’ 👉AIPAC (and never forget ADL)
Joseph Kent said the Islamic Republic posed no imminent threat to the United States. “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran.”
As an ex-Green Beret who served multiple combat tours, and a member of the ** SUCKERS & LOSERS ** according to Trump, Joseph Kent wrote a resignation letter to Trump stating that:
“Until June of 2025, you understood that the wars in the Middle East were a trap that robbed America of the precious lives of our Patriots and depleted the wealth and prosperity of our Nation.”
And he dramatically continues, by writing on that same letter:
“Early in this administration, high-ranking Israeli officials and influential members of the American media deployed a misinformation campaign that wholly undermined your America First platform and sowed pro-war sentiments to encourage a war against Iran.”
“This echo chamber was used to deceive you into believing that Iran posed an imminent threat to the United States of America, and that should you strike now, there was a clear path to a swift victory.”
“This was a lie and it is the same tactic the Israelis used to draw us into the disastrous Iraq war that cost our nation the lives of thousands of our best men and women.
I cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves NO benefit to the American people nor justifies the cost of American lives.”
Last week, Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Senator who attended a two-hour briefing on the White House’s current aims for the conflict said the USA administration is not seeking to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons programme, nor force regime change in the country, and Trump is unable to “defend this war in public”.
Iran’s regime will likely remain in power, USA intelligence has said, despite almost three weeks of US-Israeli attacks on the country.
Although Trump and Netanyahu have vowed to destroy Iran until a change of government is achieved, a multitude of intelligence reports provide “consistent analysis that the regime is not in danger” of collapse.
This war aligns neatly with Israel’s long‑standing desire to take Iran “off the geopolitical chessboard”. However, Trump was warned that attacking Iran could trigger strikes against USA Gulf allies, according to a US official and two sources familiar with US intelligence reports.
Ex-Soldier, wife killed through terrorism, won his primary and lost to a democrat in the election, running as a Trump supporter, libertarian, non-interventionist. I mean, he would probably be a normal (very) right wing US polititian.
I guess many of the non terminal head cases in Trump’s orbit are starting to think about their political future.
