A new documentary by TV2000 Italy, “Dall’Algeria a Pavia, il lungo giallo delle reliquie di Sant’Agostino” (“From Algeria to Pavia: the long mystery of the relics of St. Augustine’) (released on 16 March 2026, retraces the fascinating journey of the relics of Saint Augustine of Hippo from Algeria to Pavia. Through historical investigation and interviews, the film explores the centuries-long “mystery” surrounding their transfer and preservation, featuring insightful contributions from numerous Augustinian friars who shed light on the spiritual and historical significance of the relics.

The documentary is especially timely in light of the upcoming apostolic journeys of Pope Leo XIV, who will visit both Pavia and Algeria, retracing the Augustinian roots of Saint Augustine of Hippo not only as Pope, but as a son of the Augustinian spiritual tradition.
