The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, has reacted to the European Union’s decision to lift punitive measures against Kosovo, describing it as a welcome but overdue step.
According to Hamza, these measures were a consequence of tensions and the Government’s lack of coordination with international allies, but he emphasized that progress cannot be achieved through punishment, but through partnership and cooperation.
“The lifting of the measures by the European Union is a belated but welcome decision. These measures were imposed as a result of tensions and political lack of coordination of this Government with our allies, however, progress cannot be achieved through punishment, but through cooperation,” said Hamza.
He added that historically the problem for Europe has been Serbia and not Kosovo, underlining the key role of our country in strengthening regional stability and security.
“For Europe, the problem has historically been Serbia and not Kosovo. Kosovo is part of strengthening stability and security in our region,” he said.
Hamza also stressed that punitive measures have unfairly affected Kosovo’s citizens, economy and European perspective.
“Our citizens should not have been punished due to the Government’s irresponsibility. Kosovo deserves fair treatment, full support and a clear path towards European integration,” concluded the PDK leader, recalling the citizens’ pro-European orientation.
