The Japanese government has begun considering the deployment of the Self-Defense Forces to the Strait of Hormuz, and is reviewing the legal hurdles involved (Japan’s pacifist constitution only allows action in “survival‑threatening situations”).

Should be an easy no, right?
(after an appropriate period of ‘considering’ and ‘trying to make it work’ to appease the Toddler in Chief)
She has received her orders.
How does going to war for an orange pedophile qualify as a “survival‑threatening situation”?
Japan bro, the last time I check it’s US who nuke you and not Iran.
It’s a no from me
Imagine signing up to join the JSDF to protect and serve your country, only to be told you are being deployed to Iran to protect the Epstein class, and a country you are not even part of.
The vassal-colony-state say’s yes to dying in the middle east.
Consideration until he is gone.
Lol and China can stop say refine rare earth to Japan of they do.
The Self Defense Forces, they should change it to “The Donnie Invasion Forces”.
Japanese seriously lost their backbone after WWII 🇯🇵☀️
Takaichi san: weak with the strong, and strong with the weak. I pity the persons working under her.
Weak. Not exactly the 「Japan that can say ‘no’」 that her mentor Abe advocated.
But Trump has already recalled.
As a matter of fact, Iran is not threatening Japan so it’s obvious it would be illegal to send the SDF there. If anything, the US provoked a war with Iran that put Japan in a very bad position: it is the US that are threatening Japan’s survival.
Screw that idea on so many levels.
Trump’s boot licking continues
“Let’s move our near non-existant military all the way to Middle East just to appease our abusive ally who ripped up our trade deal, despite every respectable nation refusing”
“This will show China!””
This is going nowhere fast. Typical Reddit Post bait
I would be impressed if she does send ships there.
Would give her kudos.
wtf…why?….
japan should consider the fact even the US Navy is staying clear of the strait
This is a good time for that traditional “Japan business planning moves at an impossibly slow pace” discussion and deliberation to apply to this consideration now.
either they have an excuse to not go, or they trash the peace constitution, both a win for japan, at least in terms of what the leaders want.
Relax, everyone. This is just one giant, drawn out “mmmm, ahhhhh, ehhhhh…” which is the Japanese equivalent of saying no.
I didn’t realize until last weekend that Japan has an SDF base nearby in Djibouti. Built in 2011, Google says that it’s primarily to secure crucial maritime trade routes against piracy, protect energy supplies from the Middle East, and project influence in the Horn of Africa. Sure, Djbouti is in the Red Sea, not the Persian Gulf, but I guess Japanese tankers getting hit by drones would constitute as protecting energy supplies from the middle east.
I can’t imagine this situation of getting involved in a war will be very popular with Japanese people but things could go either way if the oil supply dries up here in Japan.
This will be Takaichi’s downfall.
It is a survival threatening situation. This being said not sure a few ships mostly for ASW missions can do much in this situation.
The political capital to amend the constitution to attack Iran of all places doesn’t seem to be there.
Would also be deeply hilarious if Japan moves a giant chunk of their navy to the middle east only for China to make its move then
She’s going to meet her boss tomorrow and fold like a lawn chair, isn’t she?
That should be a quick legal review and now doesn’t seem to be a clever time to displace assets far away from home does it.
Oh for ducks sake, they don’t know what they’re getting into.
First off, I thought they already decided on “no.” What’s with this constant waffling?
Second, JMSDF minesweepers were deployed during the 1991 Gulf War, so there is precedent, however I’m pretty sure that was *after* hostilities ended.
Japan is caught between a rock and an orange.
Takaichi: Woof woof woof
(Where is my treat?)
Is this considered Stockholm syndrome?
Fuck no! As an American I say, do not assist this moron in this pointless war.
Please do 😂
Yeah they need to get this lady out
