I get the schadenfreude, but the “apparently I’m an idiot” phase is really important for pulling people out of a cult. It’s the first crack in the armor that gives an outsider a way in.
This is where you need to play a counselor role, help them understand how they were misled, how to identify it happening again, how to stop it from happening again, deconstruct the cultist persona, and invite them into a new social circle. If they are met with derision, rejection, and spite, that just sends them back into the cult.
It’s not about winning a single argument, it’s fighting a long war with the alternate-reality that they’re drowning in, pulling people out, and making sure they don’t fall back in.
