On Wednesday, citizens from several villages in Gjilan expressed concern that Serbian soldiers were conducting training near the border with Kosovo.
Regarding this, Telegrafi asked KFOR.
In a written response, KFOR announced that the Serbian Armed Forces activity was a planned exercise, involving paratroopers deployed by helicopter to the village of Muhovc.
According to them, this activity took place within Serbian territory and does not pose a threat to security or stability in the region.
“The NATO-led KFOR mission continues to closely monitor the situation along the Administrative Boundary Line and throughout Kosovo, maintaining constant communication and effective coordination with local security authorities and the Chief of Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces,” KFOR’s response states.
Earlier, the Mayor of Gjilan, Alban Hyseni, said that the military exercises conducted near the border with the Republic of Kosovo, near Gjilan, are worrying and provocative for citizens.
In a reaction on Facebook, he said that the presence of military forces, aircraft and such activities in residential areas creates a sense of insecurity and unnecessary tension, directly affecting the daily lives of citizens.
“As Mayor of Gjilan, I express my deep concern about these developments and ask the relevant local and international institutions to monitor the situation carefully and take concrete actions to guarantee security and stability in the region,” Hyseni wrote on Facebook./Telegrafi.
