  1. This shows how much you can trust politicians. Say one thing but act differently

  2. Ready to “contribute” to “appropriate efforts”. So intentional vagueness with a lot of comfortable wiggle room.

Yesterday, Reddit was full of news that these exact countries declined to help. This was an unexpected 180.

This statement is so astonishingly broad as to be meaningless. Aside from saying Iran’s at fault for Iran closing the Strait, it essentially says *nothing* else. It doesn’t even include the boilerplate “we call on all parties to pursue a diplomatic solution” bit that most statements like this include. There’s not even the suggestion of a timeline.

This reads to me like a statement more intended for foreign consumption than anything else. Read it as “yeah, we’ll do something to help resolve the situation, absolutely.” The only thing even remarkably interesting about the statement is that it doesn’t include Canada, which has taken on more of a leadership role over the last year, and it only has one representative from East Asia. A lot of the oil transiting Hormuz is bound for South Korea and China, both of which are conspicuous in their absence here. Nor do I think this is a “everyone else in the G7” thing because the Dutch signed on, too.

This may not be a 180. However, considering how recently we were threatening to invade Greenland, they’re being a lot less publicly opposed to assisting than I imagine I would be in their shoes.

  6. I sincerely hope our governments stay out of this. The US and Israel made this bed, let them lie awake on their own.

This is just a stalling tactic to stave off the retaliatory 5a “I’m imposing tariffs on you” toilet tweets

Funny how that works, complete 180.

Realistically, It’s obviously in everyone’s best interest to neutralize Iran and keep the straight open.

    Translation:

*We don’t want to risk losing access to US hydrocarbons, now that we need them more than ever.*

  10. What are the gulf states doing?

We can clean up the mess here and nobody else does anything?
