The Croatian government is holding discussions with both domestic and international manufacturers regarding the possible construction of a new ammunition factory in Croatia, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has confirmed.
Speaking on Saturday, Plenković said negotiations are ongoing but stressed that such discussions are typically conducted away from public attention.
“These are discussions that are not conducted in front of cameras, but I can confirm that talks are taking place,” the prime minister said.
According to the government, several potential locations for the facility are being considered.
One of the sites reportedly under review is near the town of Obrovac, in northern Dalmatia.
Among the companies involved in the discussions is Italian arms manufacturer Beretta, one of the world’s most recognised firearms producers.
Founded in 1526 and headquartered in Gardone Val Trompia in northern Italy, Beretta is widely regarded as the oldest active firearms manufacturer in the world.
The company produces a broad range of firearms and defence equipment, including pistols, rifles, shotguns and military weapons used by armed forces, law enforcement agencies and civilian markets globally.
Beretta is part of the Beretta Holding Group, which also owns a number of well-known firearms and optics brands and operates production facilities and subsidiaries across Europe, the United States and other international markets.
Increasing ammunition production capacity has become a strategic priority across Europe in recent years as governments seek to strengthen defence readiness and support allied supply chains.
The government has not provided a timeline for when a decision might be made, but discussions with interested manufacturers are expected to continue.
