  1. The recent leak of the french aircraft carrier’s position from a sailor posting their exercise to an excercise app exposed just how vulternable everyone is even from open source snooping. EVs can certainly be used to snoop on where military personnel are.

We are not friends with China their objectives do no align with ours. Were there to be an invasion of Taiwan in the near future, imagine a scenario where we simply cannot act because our military is thoroughly compromised.

If the argument is we won’t do anything anyways, why have a military at all.

Guess who by far by the most American Cars ?

    Surprise, Surprise its Canada .

No keep in mind its a tiny amount we are allowing in .

Literally, forget about cell phones , theres millions if not billions of Chinese electric components traveling around with Canadians already .

Sure , lets becareful, but come on the amount of articles trying to generate fear in Canadians from buying a Chinese car is halirous.

  3. I’m pro Chinese EV, (in Mexico right now and am loving the BYD cars). But I also agree that limiting them from being on military bases is not a bad policy.

Call me crazy, but I would also require banning American made, or American controlled products at our military bases too. The possibility of the US invading us is non-zero with Republican presidents in power these days, and I wouldn’t want to give any additional intelligence to the US in case the do decide to pull the trigger one day.

Unfortunately, that’s pretty hard to accomplish with Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc, and even Reddit, but yeah, our soldiers using American controlled products is a huge hole and puts us at risk. And I understand that we still do joint exercises with them, but at least with joint exercises and any American servicemen on Canadian soil, we know the information they are already getting – we just don’t want to give them more information (especially if we are building an nuke in secrecy).

And yes, for the record, I am for banning cars controlled by foreign countries (any country, not just China) on our military bases, but that is easier said than done.

  5. Canada should not be banning anything from China, anywhere.

If anything, we should be banning oil imports from the US as the net effect would be beneficial for Canadian sovereignty.

Any stifling of the EV market would just reverse our transition from fossil fuels and drag us further down into economic turmoil as the Iran war continues to linger for months.

The US is deliberately restricting the oil supply to raise prices and directly line Trump’s pockets and we are not going to continue to support a fascist dictator.

Any vehicle with built-in location tracking, microphones, cameras, or other types of tools that could potentially be used for surveillance should be banned from military sites. Strict guidelines surrounding allowable cellular devices and the software installed on them should also be implemented.
