President Lee Jae Myung said he has instructed the presidential office and Cabinet to bar multiple homeowners, non‑resident owners of high‑priced properties, and individuals with excessive real‑estate holdings from taking part in the discussion, drafting, reporting, or approval of housing and property policies.
In a social media post on Sunday, Lee said breaking away from what he called a “real estate republic” is essential to national reform, stressing that housing policy must be free of even the smallest loopholes.
He emphasized that owning multiple homes or high-value properties is not itself grounds for criticism but argued that policymakers bear responsibility for creating systems that favor speculative ownership and rising housing prices.
Lee added that officials who designed or ignored such systems and then profited from them should face sanctions and be excluded from policymaking roles.
The president emphasized that stabilizing housing prices is critical to the success of his administration and the country’s future, warning against policies that allow a small number of people to profit while many are left without homes.
