ZAGREB, 22 March (Hina) – A project titled “Tennis Summer by Goran Ivanišević”, which was announced at the Tenis klub Split on Saturday, will take place at the end of August and is expected to bring together around one hundred participants from Croatia and abroad.
As Croatia’s tennis legend Ivanišević said, the project has been in development for the past three months. It will run from 17 to 29 August, with the final event being a tennis match at Prokurative in the centre of Split. He added that it has always been his lifelong wish to play in the city centre, and, when asked, said he could not yet reveal who would be playing.
Camp participants will train in smaller groups depending on their age and level of play. The programme includes a comprehensive approach to player development.
Training sessions will be led by Ivanišević and his expert team. The final spectacle will take place on the last day, 29 August, at Prokurative, featuring an exhibition match, a concert, and a rich accompanying programme.
The Director of the Sports Department at the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, Krešimir Šamija, stated that the ministry will continue to support such initiatives, adding that if Rafael Nadal can have an academy recognised worldwide, then Split also deserves such a project led by a sporting legend.
The project is also supported by the Mayor of Split, Tomislav Šuta, who thanked Ivanišević for “bringing tennis back to Split”, saying they want to host as many such events as possible.
Ivanišević, who was born in Split, won 22 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including the 2001 Wimbledon Championships.
