The Serbian League started with the playoff eighth-final matches.
The classification before the playoffs was determined based on the standings in the VRL regional league. The top 4 Serbian clubs in the Premier League (Radnicki, Sabac, Novi Beograd and Partizan) qualified for the quarterfinals directly, and the others played in the eighth finals (best of two).
As expected, the most balanced encounter was the one between Vojvodina and Zemun, which finished in 4th and 5th place in the VRL A1 league, respectively. However, Vojvodina was the favorite, and it proved it in the first game in Belgrade, beating Zemun 12:10. But the team from Novi Sad suffered a loss in the return match in its home pool. Zemun achieved a 14:12 victory in Novi Sad, and the penalty shootout decided which team would advance to the quarterfinals. Zemun won 6:5 in the penalty drama and secured its spot among the Top 8 teams.
Crvena Zvezda, Valis, and Nais each beat their rivals twice.
